National Senior Citizens Day event rescheduled to October 11

The City of El Centro’s National Senior Citizens Day event, “Around the World,” has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., October 11, 2023, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Sports Pavilion, 770 Park Ave., in El Centro.

“We weren’t going to let this event be cancelled,” said City of El Centro Mayor Martha Cardenas-Singh. “Our City’s senior citizens will get their day to enjoy a trip around the world without requiring a passport.”

The event will include games, prizes, raffles, exercise classes, dancing, informational booths, and much more, while various cultures from around the world are highlighted.

The City of El Centro, in collaboration with Imperial County’s Public Administrator/Area Agency on Aging, Behavioral Health, Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego, El Centro Regional Medical Center, Calexico Wellness Center, Pacific Southwest Community Development Corporation, and the City of Calexico Housing Authority will be hosting the event in honor of National Senior Citizens Day.

Free transportation will also be provided to the event. To reserve transportation call (442) 265-7032. Deadline to reserve transportation is September 28. Pick-up locations will be in Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Imperial, and Westmorland.

The event was originally scheduled for August 21, but was postponed due to Tropical Storm Hilary.
