El Centro, Ca. – August 15, 2024 – Six City of El Centro Fire Department firefighters safely returned home this past weekend after two weeks of intense firefighting efforts on the Borel Fire in Kern County.
The team, equipped with Type 6 and Type 3 engines, utilized the off-road capabilities of these vehicles to access challenging and otherwise unreachable terrain.
Fire Chief Joseph Bernal also returned to El Centro on Monday, following a demanding two-week assignment as a Strike Team Leader on the Park Fire. This massive fire, which has spread across four counties, has already consumed 430,000 acres and is currently 40 percent contained.
