The City of El Centro offers sandbags and sand to residents in preparation for Tuesday’s rain

El Centro, Ca. – February 4, 2024 – In an abundance of caution, the City of El Centro will provide empty sandbags and sand for residents on Monday and Tuesday. Empty sandbags can be picked up between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at El Centro Fire Station #3, 1910 North Waterman Avenue, and the Community Center, 375 South First Street.

Proof of residency will be required and sandbags are limited to 10 per household.
The sandbags can be filled with sand at three self-serve locations:

  • The parking lot on the corner of West Olive Avenue and South Fourth Street
  • The parking lot of Carlos Aguilar Memorial Park, 1575 West Pico Avenue
  • The parking lot of David Gomez Park, 901 South Hope Street.

Residents must bring their shovels and manpower to fill their bags.
The National Weather Service Station in Phoenix is forecasting that the City of El Centro will receive rain Monday evening through Wednesday morning. The majority of the rain is forecasted to arrive Tuesday evening with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
