City of El Centro Launches GIS Interactive Sidewalk Application

El Centro, CA., February 13, 2025:

The City of El Centro is proud to announce the availability of the GIS Interactive Sidewalk Application on the city’s website. This innovative tool highlights the sidewalk improvements completed by the City’s Public Works Department over the past three years and provides insight into proposed sidewalk locations to be addressed by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2024 Project, scheduled for completion in Summer 2025.

The interactive map is designed to keep residents informed about ongoing and future sidewalk enhancements in their neighborhoods. Completed improvements are marked with green dots, while proposed projects are represented by yellow dots.

“The GIS Interactive Sidewalk Application represents our commitment to transparency and community engagement,” said El Centro Public Works Director Abraham Campos. ”This tool allows residents to easily see the progress we’ve made and the exciting improvements planned for the future, ensuring our city’s infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our growing community.”

In addition to sidewalk projects, the City of El Centro’s Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all local streets, the storm sewer collection system, water distribution, and sewage collection system. Public Works staff can often be seen repairing traffic signals, replacing traffic signs, maintaining streets, and addressing other critical infrastructure needs to ensure the city operates smoothly and safely.

“El Centro is always looking for ways to improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Tomás Oliva. “This interactive map is a great way to keep everyone in the loop as we work to make our neighborhoods safer and more accessible.”

Residents are encouraged to report maintenance issues, such as broken streetlights or traffic signals, potholes, or water and sewer leaks, by using the “Fix It” button on the City of El Centro website or calling Public Works directly at (760) 337-4505.
