The City of El Centro invites the public to check presentation for $1.1 million from Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia

El Centro, Ca. – March 5, 2024 – The City of El Centro invites the public to a check presentation from Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia for $1,143,831 million for the Buena Vista Park Project at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, on the corner of Manuel Ortiz Avenue and South 8th Street.

“This is another fantastic park that we are adding to our City,” said City of El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin.” This project began with input from our residents, and our staff listened. We have designed a park that continues to add to the quality of life in our City.”

The funds were received through a competitive grant process and allocated in April 2021. The funds come from the Natural Resources Agency’s Urban Greening Program Awards.

“I am honored to present the City of El Centro with a $1,143,831 State investment, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance green spaces,” said Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia. “Buena Vista Park will stand as a testament to our collective commitment to providing access to quality outdoor spaces, fostering healthier lifestyles, and strengthening communities.”

The new park will have 2.3 acres of space within an 8-acre retention basin. The retention basin sits adjacent to 465 homes. The project includes the installation of a full-sized basketball court with Musco LED lighting, a playground with protective surfacing, a large green space turf area, a walking path around the perimeter of the entire basin with lighting, landscaping throughout with around 100 trees to be planted, irrigation system, a small monument sign identifying the park’s entrance and grading work. It was designed with the input of 103 residents who contributed ideas through a survey.

The City of El Centro also allocated $1,650,000 from Measure P funds to the project for a total cost of $2,793,831. The project was awarded to Three Peaks Corporation, and construction is anticipated to begin before the summer and conclude by the end of the year.
