El Centro, CA., June 2, 2025: The City of El Centro is proud to announce that Library Director Carla Mason has been elected vice chair of the Serra Cooperative Library System, a regional network of public libraries serving Imperial and San Diego counties.
The Serra Cooperative Library System is one of nine library consortia established by the California Library Services Act (CLSA). It supports its 13 member libraries by providing collaborative services, resource sharing, professional development, and grant administration. As a special district of the State of California, Serra receives funding from the state, member contributions, and grants.
Director Mason’s election to this leadership role reflects her continued commitment to innovation, cooperation, and improving access to library services.
“We are incredibly proud of Director Mason and this well-deserved recognition,” said Mayor Sonia Carter. “Her leadership strengthens not only our local library but also the broader library community across the region. El Centro is fortunate to have such a dedicated advocate for literacy, learning, and public service.”
As vice chair, Mason will help guide the consortium’s initiatives, including shared subscriptions to services such as Flipster, Overdrive, and LINK+, which allow libraries to deliver more resources to the public at reduced costs.
