El Centro, CA., – May 13, 2025:
After reviewing the re-seeding schedule and assessing the current condition of the City of El Centro’s athletic fields, the City has determined that permits for organized use will be suspended from June 1 through August 31, 2025.
The athletic fields will remain open to the general public during this time. This temporary suspension allows for essential maintenance and turf recovery ahead of the fall season. Permit requests will resume starting September 1, 2025
League-Specific Considerations:
- Little League: The City will honor the current field permit through the end of the season, as teams may advance to playoffs.
- Football: Field use will be permitted beginning August 1, in alignment with the start of the fall football season.
Beginning this year, the summer closure will become part of the City’s annual field maintenance schedule. This extended downtime is necessary to maintain a safe playing environment, support turf recovery, and provide staff the opportunity to complete essential repairs and upgrade irrigation systems.
Years of continuous field use have resulted in widespread damage, uneven surfaces, and outdated irrigation systems that can no longer meet current demands. By implementing this seasonal closure, the City is taking a proactive step toward preserving the long-term quality and safety of our athletic fields.
We thank residents for their understanding and continued partnership. While the fields are closed, we encourage residents to explore the many programs offered in our Summer 2025 Recreation Guide, presented by the City of El Centro Community Services Department – Parks and Recreation Division, the El Centro Public Library, and the El Centro Aquatic Center. The guide includes a wide variety of classes, camps, and activities for all ages. From youth sports and fitness classes to art workshops, swim lessons, reading programs, and family-friendly events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this summer.
Some programs are offered at a nominal fee, and many are free. Discover what’s available and register today on the City’s website, www.cityofelcentro.org.
