El Centro, Ca. – September 25, 2024 – After years of dedicated service to the City of El Centro, City Manager Cedric Ceseña has announced his retirement from the City’s CalPERS Retirement System, effective at the end of November. Ceseña, who has been at the helm of the City’s administration, has played a pivotal role in advancing key initiatives and guiding the City through periods of growth and challenge. His decision to retire comes after careful consideration and reflection on his time in public service, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, transparency, and commitment to the community.

“My tenure with the City of El Centro has been both a learning experience and a period of positive growth. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside one of the best City Councils in the region, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” said Ceseña. “Council has set the course for a strong and resilient future, and I am confident that El Centro is in a strong position to continue thriving, thanks to the hard work of our team and the support of our community.”

Strong relationships with City staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders have marked Ceseña’s tenure. Under his leadership, the City has effectively navigated critical challenges and their effects on City operations. Under his guidance, the City achieved a balanced budget with a surplus. “Cedric’s leadership has been a guiding force in the growth and progress of our City. His dedication to public service and commitment to El Centro’s future have made a lasting impact on all of us,” said City of El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin. “He leaves behind a legacy of excellence, and we wish him nothing but the best in this new chapter of his life.”

Ceseña was unanimously appointed City Manager on July 18, 2023, after serving as Interim City Manager since November 2022. His career in public service began in 1992 as a reserve firefighter with the City of Calexico Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become a Fire Captain. In December 2013, Ceseña joined the City of El Centro Fire Department as a Fire Battalion Chief and Public Information Officer.
