School Threat – Arrest Made

El Centro: On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 3:50 p.m., the El Centro Police Department was notified of graffiti located in one of the restrooms at Central Union High School (CUHS). The graffiti referenced a potential threat that would take place in the upcoming weeks. Officers immediately began coordinating efforts with school and district staff to investigate and address the threat. This included extra patrols of schools within our community for safety precautions.

The investigation led to the identification of a 17-year-old CUHS student involved with the threats. After a thorough investigation, the juvenile was arrested and booked into Imperial County Juvenile Hall for felony criminal threats. A search of the minor’s personal property and residence was conducted with the assistance of the minor’s parents. No weapons were located and there are no other threats to the community or school as a result of this incident.

The El Centro Police Department values our partnerships with the community and schools, and we encourage the public to call us if they see anything suspicious or concerning.

Please email Officer Miguel Garrido, El Centro Police Department, at mgarrido@ecpd.org with any information about this incident.
