Power outage at Gio’s Mobile Home Estates due to transformer fire

El Centro, Ca. – August 11, 2024 – Early Saturday morning, a transformer fire at Gio’s Mobile Home Estates in El Centro resulted in a significant power outage, initially impacting 16 homes. The situation escalated when an attempt by a privately contracted troubleshooter to repair the transformer inadvertently caused a complete power loss, affecting all 271 homes in the community.

Imperial Irrigation District (IID) technicians and representatives from the mobile home park swiftly responded to the incident. After a thorough assessment, they have determined that extensive repairs are necessary to fully restore power.

The owner of Gio’s has secured about 170 hotel rooms for residents impacted by the blackout and is working to secure more as of Saturday night. The power outage is expected to last a few days.

At 9:30 p.m., the City of El Centro Fire Department arrived on scene after being alerted to the situation. Since then, the City has been actively exploring temporary emergency shelter options for displaced residents and their pets to ensure their safety during this period of high temperatures. The City is committed to keeping the community informed and will provide ongoing updates via its social media channels.
