La Brucherie Avenue Widening
The La Brucherie Avenue Widening Project was strategically planned with a vision by the City of El Centro Council and City staff to bring a safer and more efficient circulation to the City of El Centro. The project was funded from Measure D sales tax and SB1 (Gas Tax) proceeds. The project, which began in the planning phases years ago is finally a reality.
In 2013, the City’s Public Works Department and its Engineering Division started to make steady progress, including starting of the project’s design, environmental documents, and purchasing of necessary properties to accommodate the new width.
The project was to provide a newly widened roadway, sidewalk and curb and gutter, storm water capture, street lighting, and a redesigned La Brucherie Avenue and Main Street signalized intersection.
By August 2018, the City had awarded the project construction to Granite Construction Company, along with acquiring Dynamic Consulting Engineering to provide construction management and labor compliance services throughout the duration of the project.

With this last untouched portion of La Brucherie being at one time the edge of the City; we the City, Granite Construction, and Dynamic Consultant Engineering faced many obstacles with unknown underground utilities. The team continued to work diligently and alongside with our local utility surveyors, such as the Imperial Irrigation District, AT&T, Spectrum, Southern California Gas Company, and the Imperial County Office of Education to complete the project.
On May 17, 2019, the City of El Centro was able to allow its citizens and visitors to travel along the newly widening La Brucherie Avenue, from Orange Avenue to Barbara Worth Drive.
