Arbor Day Tree Planting
The City of El Centro, in partnership with CAL FIRE and the Friends of El Centro Community Services Foundation, have worked together to form the Imperial Valley Urban Forest Program. The Imperial Valley Urban Forest is comprised of three separate, multi-million-dollar CAL FIRE Grants: Imperial Valley Urban Forest, El Centro Free Tree Program and Imperial Valley Urban Forest Inventory Program. Together, the grants summate to 3,000 planted trees across the County over the next 3-years. As the leading entity, the City of El Centro aims to set the precedence for Urban Forestry practices in the region.
On Saturday, April 20th 2019, the City of El Centro held a tree planting event to kick-off IV Urban Forest and honor the City’s newest Park, First Responders Park. The event began with a tree planting demo, followed by a mass tree planting on location. The event was a huge success and we are hopeful to see the trees grow and provide an abundance of shade for the Park.
