Aquatic Center Grand Opening
A project worth the wait, the El Centro Aquatic Center had its grand opening on October 26th, 2019. Not only was this a grand opening of a state of the art facility, this is an opening of what’s to come for the community for years down the road. The brand new Aquatic Center has an eight- lane, 25 yard competition pool, a three-lane, instructional pool, a children’s activity pool and of course the, 353 square foot lazy river.
Our state of the city address for the grand opening had guest speakers ranging from the City El Centro mayor, councilmembers, our state representative from the 51st District, Tomás Oliva, Ben Hueso, US State Senator 40th District, Luis Plancarte and Raymond Castillo, who represented the Imperial County Board of Supervisors District 2 and 5, the Honorable Judge Monica Lepe- Negrete spoke on behalf of the Library & Community Services Board, and in the final list of dignitaries, Sylvia Preciado-Platero from the American Red Cross- Imperial County Division. Each dignitary spoke their own piece of how our Aquatic Center is something that is needed for the community of El Centro and how every one of us will all reap the many benefits years to come.
This day wouldn’t be at all possible without the work of many City staff, the construction managers, construction crew, and of course our wonderful City Council who fought hard for the funds to have this amazing facility. And to the wonderful sponsors for our grand opening: CR&R, Inc. - Environmental Services, YK America, USA Swim Association, Schnelder Electric, El Centro Regional Medical Center, and Erickson-Hall Construction Co., thank you!
