Intergenerational Tech Program at Adult Center
The Intergenerational Program connects the youth in our community with the adult and senior community in a way that is fun, educational, and inspiring. Students from Central Union High School (Intergenerational Tech Squad) have the opportunity to teach everything they know about technology to our adult and senior population in our community. The Intergenerational Squad helps adults and seniors answer questions such as “How do I send a text message?” or “How do I download an app on my phone?”. Working side by side is a way to bring these two different age groups into a program that can benefit both sides.
The Intergenerational Tech Squad demonstrates seniors and adults how to play several educational games in their smartphones or tablets. Seniors and adults work together in groups and try to answer trivia questions regarding their devices. The group with the most points wins.
Overall, this program has helped so many adults and seniors forget about the fear they have towards new technology. Students learn to socialize, solve critical thinking problems, and improve their oral communication skills when working in this program. It really benefits both sides at the end of the day and everyone has fun.
This group was meeting once a month but took a break this December for the holidays. We will resume back in January or February depending on the students schedule.
