Originally, Carlos Aguilar Park, located on the northside of El Centro was originally called “North Park”. The park was an important focus of the City of El Centro because of the location and the design of the park to provide an abundancy of youth activity.

In 1984 the City of El Centro adopted a resolution to rename the park to the “Carlos Aguilar Memorial Park”. The decision was made, in part, due to the dedication of the volunteers and adult leaders who gave their time freely to promote activities for the city’s youth. One of the most significant leaders of youth activities was Carlos Aguilar. Carlos Aguilar had dedicated countless hours of his time to youth community programs and activities. Throughout those year’s, Aguilar was an inspiration to everyone and was tireless in his participation of sports for kids. Aguilar has been recognized for many achievements over those years, some of which are:
