La Resaca
David and Diana Nuricumbo are not new to the restaurant business. Aside from getting ready to open the new La Resaca in downtown El Centro, they also own two other La Resaca restaurants, one in Calexico and one in Yuma. Another popular restaurant they own is La Lonchera that is located in Calexico.
La Resaca in downtown El Centro was planned to be open in May of 2020. COVID-19 of course, has caused a lot of delays for the Nuricumbo’s to finish construction. Their hope is to open in some capacity in early 2021. La Resaca originally opened in El Centro in 2014 on Imperial Avenue and Broadway near the old Brunner’s. Nuricumbo bought the old Masonic Temple located at 143 S. Sixth Street and began remodeling. When completed the building will house La Resaca which is primarily a seafood restaurant and sports bar and Sonora Fusion restaurant that will be a Sonoran style steakhouse and two event centers on the second floor.
Working with the City of El Centro has been a good experience for Nuricumbo “I just thought the City has been great and are really working on improving the downtown area. I wish my City (Calexico) was doing half of what the City of El Centro is doing” Diana stated.
